The Project Arts Centre’s is perhaps the most innovative and dynamic of Dublin’s theatres.  Price-wise it is also the most student friendly, with many of the exhibitions in the gallery space being free of charge.

The Project’s programme includes all contemporary art forms: theatre, dance, live art, video and film, jazz, electronic, classical and popular music.  I shall stop before I start to forget that this is a theatre page but the list goes on.

Is it just me or does the Fresh Prince seems hell-bent on heroism these days? Let’s see- ‘The Pursuit of Happyness, ‘Hancock’, and now most recently ‘Seven Pounds’ all feauture our favourite man in black as the ultimate do-gooder, a man that suffers for the sake of others, an isolated other-wordly being that saves us all from the clutches of fate. Lesbians are not women.’1 While it is possible to suggest that lesbians are in fact the ultimate women (their relationships being representative of the complete disavowal of the male and the necessity of the phallus), Wittig’s assertion is based on the idea that, as Julia Kristeva points out, ‘women cannot be said to exist’2. According to this theory, in subscribing to the category of women as being somehow valid or innate, one subscribes to a system of codes and binaries produced and maintained by a patriarchal system as a means of asserting power over women.

It’s a classic story - one man suffers for our sins, and we are all saved. This year, that man is an elf.

Due to huge public demand (honest!), The Santaland Diaries, directed by Stewart Roche and starring Patrick O’ Donnell, will have 2 additional performances on Monday the 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd of December in Bewleys Cafe Theatre. This will be the last chance (no, really) to see the funniest Christmas show in town.

For Michael and John life is hectic enough - a strange girl called ‘Wendy’ who says she’s your sister, a father who won’t take his medicine, a nursemaid who happens to be a large dog. But then they hear about a boy called ‘Peter Pan’, a boy who only cares for what is the most fun, and suddenly they are whisked away to ‘The Neverland’, a place where even crocodiles tell the time.
