Irish Tour Nov. 12 – Dec. 19

The NASC touring network presents Druid’s sell-out hit of this year’s Galway Arts Festival -The Gigli Concert by Tom Murphy – a searching, challenging and funny story of hope and possibility and above all the endurance of the human spirit. This Druid production will embark on an extensive tour of Ireland between November 12th and December 19th playing in Letterkenny, Tralee, Longford, Portlaoise, Dún Laoghaire and Ennis.

Rough is an original piece by the Dublin based theatre collective THEATREclub and fits perfectly into the Fringe Festival motif; it was first performed as part of Project Brand New at the Project Arts Centre in July 2008, the writing is young, fresh and comments on young life in Dublin.

FREEFALL by Michael West

Freefall is both like and unlike any of Corn Exchange’s previous work. Director Annie Ryan seems to have somewhat moved away from her signature use of ‘white face’ and Commedia dell’Arte. This would lead audiences to believe that perhaps this production is more ‘contemporary’ than the Corn Exchange has shown us before.

Contrary to an uncommon yet amusing misconception, the term ‘free jazz’ is not to be taken literally. Perhaps someone should have told the massive crowd who turned up to an Ornette Coleman concert in 1969 with empty pockets. Something makes me think that they might regret their frugality, as Coleman was to become regarded as one of the most highly influential innovators and involuntary revolutionaries in the history of jazz music, and may have been worth a few spare pennies and a handful of lint.
