While this book might reside predominantly in the technology sections of book shops, rest assured it is not just for the tech geeks amongst us. You have my word as someone who doesn’t know the difference between a URL and an SMS and couldn’t care less.
The book, written by the news editor of wired.com, explores the success of Apple, attributing it primarily to the absolute genius of Steve Jobs (Apple’s co-founder and CEO), and will be interesting to anyone who has, or has ever wanted, an iPod, an iMac or anything remotely related.
I warn you, about a chapter in Steve magically stops being just a man and becomes your idol. The man is a walking talking business machine. He is the narcissistic, controlling perfectionist who saved apple from caving in when the future looked bleak. As Kahney examines the quirky behaviours of my new best friend, some business lessons do ensue. Don’t panic: for someone who finds themselves with absolutely so business acumen to speak of and no desire to acquire any such expertise, they also serve as life lessons. Emerging from Steve’s brain I find myself better equipped to face the world. And so will you.
