March 2009The Abbey Theatre continues its ABBEY TALKS programme of free events designed to challenge and respond to the work on stage. ‘MAN to MAN’ is a series of talks which ties in with the current production of SAM SHEPARD’S world premiere, AGES OF THE MOON at the Peacock, which is a poignant and funny play about male friendship. With the help of leading experts from Ireland and abroad, the series gives the opportunity to get a deeper experience of the work on stage and hear from theatre makers, facilitators and actors.

Currently on stage at the Peacock, the stars of AGES OF THE MOON, SEAN MCGINLEY and STEPHEN REA will be in conversation on Thursday 26 March in a post-show talk which will give a fascinating insight into their experience working on this great new work by one of the world’s most important playwrights.

On Friday 3 April, OSKAR EUSTIS, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, New York, which hosted the US premiere of Shepard’s last work at the Abbey, KICKING A DEAD HORSE, will be in conversation with FIACH MAC CONGHAIL, Artistic Director of the Abbey Theatre. This talk will be facilitated by MADELINE BOUGHTON, Director of Projects and Promotions at Culture Ireland.

The following week, on Monday 6 April, pioneering film and video artist, CHARLES ATLAS (collaborator with Merce Cunningham, Michael Clark, Marina Abramovic, Diamanda Galas and Leigh Bowery), will be in conversation with choreographer, JOHN SCOTT.

Later that week on Tuesday 7 April, the founder of Theatre of the Oppressed, AUGUSTO BOAL will explore the legacy of theatre with his son JULIAN BOAL. Boal is a theatre director, writer and politician and was recently nominated for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize.
