A cherished dream is finally becoming a reality with the imminent re-opening of Druid’s newly refurbished home on Druid Lane in Galway. The theatre will be unveiled with a production of The Gigli Concert by Tom Murphy as part of Galway Arts Festival (July 14-25). The production will then transfer to the Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork (July 28 – August 1) before returning to Galway to the Town Hall Theatre (August 4th – 8th). Widely regarded as Tom Murphy’s masterpiece, The Gigli Concert will embark on an extensive tour of Ireland in November and December.

The Irish Critic has noted that a few of you theatre lovers have been searching for information on The Irish Times Theatre Awards 2009. This has been noted and as usual the critic has accomodated your every need by providing you with a list of this years nominees- quite a line up. The Irish Critic’s vote goes for Tom Vaughan Lawlor in the best actor category.

Delirium is Enda Walsh’s extreme reinterpretation of Dostoevsky’s ‘The Brothers Karamazov’, a hybrid of obscene puppetry, surreal dance, provocative animation and sudden song that envelop the sensibilities of an audience and transport them to a horrorscape of a family dynamic that demands collapse. The overall projection of play is the destruction of that which is too far beyond us to attain- the persual of disinterested lovers, disinterested fathers, and disintegrating spirituality.
